Manuka honey is a supersaturated solution composed mainly of fructose and glucose, and containing proteins and amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and other minor components. Primarily, manuka honey has been shown to improve skin wound healing (mainly through strong anti-bacterial properties). In cosmetic formulations, it has emollient, humectant, soothing, and hair conditioning effects, keeps the skin in good condition (helps it to repair itself) and prevents infections.

Honey-based cosmetic products include lip ointments, cleansing milks, hydrating creams, after sun, tonic lotions, shampoos, and conditioners. The used amounts range between 1 and 20%

Skin types that could benefit from manuka honey:

      Acne
      Dehydrated

      Scarring/Damaged Skin

It can also help condition damaged hair.

Caution: Sugary based actives can place a higher bio-burden on your formula and may even ferment when low levels of sugar solution are present in a poorly preserved base. This may result in a product with poor stability that will start to smell off. The use of a good preservative, chelating agent and good manufacturing practice methods should make it possible to create a successful manuka product.
